About Us

Tech Church is a ministry of Qube5 Labs. It was created by Jerry Stringfellow to answer questions many people have about using technology as a more effective means to spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Qube5 Labs believes that commerical advertising relies on a multimedia format because it is the most effective means to communicate a message. As church leaders we have to ask ourselves "what message is more important than the one Jesus has for us?"
The philosophy of Qube5 Labs is simply this:
Christ is the head of the church, so all churches should work together to serve Him. There are no denominations in Heaven.

Jerry draws on the following experience:
He grew up in a church home and accepted Christ as his Saviour in 1969. Jerry has a degree from Florida State University in Computer Science and Mathematics. He also has over twenty years experience programming software for mainframe computers. As an active volunteer at his church he has used his skills as the "computer guy" for the church staff. In 1995 he was an original member of a group led by Dr. Bruce Jones that launched a radical new multimedia worship service, Saturday Night WIRED.
During the four and half years that Saturday Night WIRED operated it received the following recognition:
  • was the feature story on the front page of the Florida Times-Union Metro section
  • received an award from the Florida Conference of United Methodist Church
  • was part of a study by a state-wide committee on church revitalization.
The Saturday Night WIRED worship team was invited to Leesburg to present the worship format at the School of Preaching (attended by hundreds of clergy from all over Florida), and leaders of a city wide youth revival added an extra night to the revival being held at Murray Hill Theatre so it could include a Saturday Night WIRED presentation by Rev. Jerry Johnson.

Since November of 1995, Jerry has been involved in the creation and running of the computer presentation on a weekly basis. He has worked with four different pastors on a regular basis and about two dozen guest speakers, both clergy and laity. He has created computer presentations for city wide events at the Florida Theatre, the Center for the Performing Arts, and the Prime Osborne Convention Center (all located in Jacksonville, Florida USA). In Spring of 2000, Jerry was led by the Lord to serve at a new church starting a new Sunday morning multimedia worship service in an elementary school cafeteria. Conflicts with his work schedule forced Jerry to move to church closer to home.

Jerry has also been been a part-time webmaster for several different organizations and published a weekly e-letter for Saturday Night WIRED. He has provided hands-on training seminars in the mechanics of computer presentations, he has also traveled to several different churches to train volunteers in multimedia presentations along with several trips to Leesburg to train clergy members. He has provided consulting (via email) to a number of indivuals across America (even a pastor in England).

Prior to 1995, Jerry viewed personal computers as a great toy for playing computer games and a pretty good replacement for the typewriter. Since that time he has learned many of the ins & outs of manipulating graphics, what makes a good font, the importance of transitions, how to connect a PC sound card into a professional sound system that uses XLR jacks, and above all else when looking for photos to use in presentations - Beware of Geeks Bearing GIFS!

Jerry is experienced with the following software for use in the creation of presentations:
 Astound presentationsJASC PaintShop Pro
 ULead Cool 3DCrystal Flying Fonts
 Microsoft WordMicrosoft Powerpoint

Jerry has a wife and three children (and two grandchildren). They share their home with a dog and an assortment of small critters (in cages). The family attends Southside United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, Florida.
